| The Challenge Medical Company A is an online supplier of eye care products supported by a street level sales force. With an aggressive business model adding two major metropolitan areas per month the client needed an order processing facility that could handle spikes in their daily processing. Also by adding multiple sales reps per month the increased volume would also be an issue. Since these products were for health purposes the need for lot tracking and monitoring of expiration dates would be essential. The Solution By utilizing UnitedFSI’s Fulfillment Management System (FMS) the receiving and tracking of Lot information was no problem. By utilizing purchase order information the system was set up with procedures that would alert the inventory control staff to shift stock in order to release short dated stock and when to quarantine expired stock. Should there be reason to quarantine stock based on Lot number the FMS would manage this process to ensure customer safety.. To handle the order fluctuations UnitedFSI would again rely on our FMS as well as utilized our versatile staff to maintain order efficiencies. By establishing history of the products the system recommended pick locations that would benefit the pickers and maximize picker efficiencies. By binning the stock based on velocity reports the time spent in one day by our client took our pickers only a few hours a day. The Result By exceeding the order turnaround requested by our client and getting ordered product to the physicians patients in record time, sales reps were able to maximize their efforts based on physician referrals. The sales reps around the country were then able to grow their territory based on referrals resulting in the largest sales growth period in the company’s history. By not only utilizing the products Lot and Expiration information we were also able to build history on products and set min and max levels that assisted our client in the ordering of their products. This history lowered the percentage of expiring stock and reduced the fiscal loss for product that must be destroyed. |
